My sister’s husband wanted us to sing Amazing Grace at her funeral last month, but my parents’ bishop wouldn’t allow it. Judging by your performance, it would appear as though your bishop didn’t have any problem with it. Now I’m interested in finding out the LDS Church’s official position on it. Anyway, great job!
Yea, this was for a stake-sponsored performance meant as a kind of public outreach, so it might be a little different that way. I don’t know if there’s any official church position, but the song does seem to have a strong emphasis on a kind of one-time event version of salvation–I wonder if that’s part of the issue.
